Skin treatments
Dermaroller™
Dermaroller™ (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or Micro-surgical skin needling) is a safe, painless and virtually risk-free treatment for dramatic improvement of skin texture and appearance. It stimulates the skin to naturally regenerate and repair itself and to restore its youthful appearance.
Eliza was one of the first therapist in UK to be trained in Dermaroller™ therapy. Since 2006 she has constantly used the treatment in her skin health restoration programmes to improve her clients’ skin appearance and texture. Eliza uses single-use sterile Titanium Dermaroller (Medical model 1.5-3 mm).

What the Dermaroller™ therapy is used for:
- Scarring
- Enlarged pores
- Acne and chicken pox scars
- Wrinkles and lines
- Lack of skin firmness and elasticity
- Sun damage
- Stretch marks
Eliza uses Dermaroller™ for :
Ageing skin
• To restore firmness and tightness to flaccid skin. A less invasive alternative to small face-lift and eye-lifting procedures (great results in the skin above the eyes can be achieved due to natural elevation of eyebrows as a result of healing)
• To thicken the epidermis and enhance dermal compactness. It is great alternative to ablative resurfacing treatments in patients with thin skin. A virtually painless and cost-effective treatment alternative to non-ablative laser therapy (i.e. Fraxel)
• To smooth wrinkles, lines and folds. It is suitable alternative for injections with collagen, hyaluronic acid and other types of dermal fillers due to natural synthesis of collagen, elastin and other components of intracellular matrix
• To improve skin texture and the appearance of large pores. Pore size reduction occurs due to increasing collagen production around the pore (which helps to squeeze the pore tighter) and due to increasing elastin production (which allows stretched pores to revert back to their original size)
Eliza recommends a course of 3 Dermaroller™ treatments combined with the powerful corrective CosMedix skincare which she uses in her clinic. The treatments are usually spread 4-6 weeks apart.
Scars
• To reduce the appearance of indented acne scars
• To improve scars caused by chicken pox
• To help relax old scars
• To diminish the appearance of old surgical scars. The results of the skin needling with the Dermaroller are superior to dermabrasion, to most skin peels and in some cases to laser resurfacing.
With indented acne scars a course of at least 5 treatments will be recommended. The treatments are spread 4-6 weeks apart.
Hyperpigmentation
• To lighten pigmentation marks
Stretch Marks
• To improve the appearance of stretch marks from pregnancy or weight loss.

How does it work?
Dermaroller™ is a medical device which creates a multitude of tiny puncture wounds to the dermis which as a result induces the release of growth factors to stimulate dramatically the production of new collagen and elastin and regenerate new skin cells. Creating dermal damage without removal of the healthy epidermis, as with other resurfacing techniques, means the healing time is rapid and does not cause any comparable pain. The process of skin repair and enhancement is gradual but long lasting. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months.
In contrast to many other skin renewal treatments, such as chemical peel and dermabrasion or laser resurfacing; treatment with the Dermaroller™ does not destroy the upper layers of the skin to induce collagen growth. Instead, the Dermaroller™ induces collagen synthesis by creating micro-punctures in the epidermis without compromising its integrity, without a prolonged down time and without a high risk of complications. Finally, Dermaroller is also the most cost-effective way of effective skin regeneration when compared to other therapies.
Dermaroller™ is also one of the few skin therapies that is suitable for treating all skin types, including ethnic skin, and which can be used to treat the fragile skin around the eyes, mouth and on the neck.
How is the treatment administered?
The Procedure is performed in a very safe and precise manner with the use of single-use sterile Titanium Dermaroller (Medical model 1.5-3 mm).
Before the procedure commences a topical anaesthetic or local block should be applied to the skin for approximately 45 min to ensure your comfort and a pain-less experience. After the skin is numbed, the practitioner gently rolls the Titanium Dermaroller over the client's skin to puncture the outermost layers of the skin and create minuscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year, yet they close within less than an hour. The procedure is normally completed within 45 minutes.
What is the skin appearance after the treatment?
After the procedure the skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way as moderate to strong sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatments and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After 3 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.
Post-treatment recommendations
Immediately after the procedure…
• If a topical layer of post treatment serum was applied after the Dermaroller™ procedure, it must be kept overnight and washed off the next morning. A dermal repair cream will be applied to help the skin calm down. There is no post-treatment sensitivity to UV light.
After the skin has healed…
• Make-up may be used when the skin is completely healed.
A normal skincare regimen can be resumed once the skin has completely healed.
